ESPERANDO EL VERDADERO APOCALIPSE Y EL

                   AUTO GENOCIDIO DEL HOMO SAPIENS

         Los días pasan y ocurren cosas extrañas en este mundo. Sin embargo, la humanidad sigue viva. En estos momentos, los líderes temen iniciar una guerra global porque saben cuál sería el desenlace. Entran en el juego de llamarlo guerra en estado permanente de tregua. Es y no es, como en una pesadilla o en una película kafkiana en blanco y negro. Inician un ataque, pero no lo continúan. Sin embargo, es inevitable que el final llegue.

         Por otro lado, el Apocalipsis ya fue profetizado hace mucho tiempo. Hace tanto que hasta nos hemos olvidado. Fue predicho en el Libro de Daniel, escrito en un rollo de cuero de cordero, que apareció en el siglo VI a. C.   Sucedió durante el cautiverio del pueblo judío en Babilonia.  El Libro del Apocalipsis, otra predicción escrita por Juan de Patmos, apareció entre los años 90 y 95 d. C., época en la que las legiones romanas llevaban a cabo sus persecuciones y se creía que Dios finalmente preparaba el triunfo sobre el mal. Teólogos romanos predijeron que la humanidad llegaría a su fin en el año 500 d. C.  Sin embargo, al llegar esa mañana soleada, todo transcurrió con mucha placidez, con un sabroso desayuno compuesto por panis siligineus untado con miel, uvas, dátiles y leche de cabra.  Luego, sintiéndose muy felices, todos se fueron a caminar por el campo a ver el Apocalipsis, pero este nunca llegó.

        A pesar de esto, todos sabemos que llegará.  En el pasado eso no importaba. Ahora es alarmante porque, al verlo en regresión, sabemos que con cada día que pasa hay un lapso menor de paz y nos acercamos más a ese final. La solución estaría en establecer una paz permanente.  No obstante, la violencia genética que el ser humano lleva en su ADN de doble hélice no permite que nadie esté exento de ofenderse con otra nación por el más insignificante de los motivos. Se vuelve aún más alarmante cuando concluimos que la humanidad es la única especie que ha evolucionado para extinguirse a sí misma y que seremos nuestros propios genocidas.

         Solo nos queda esperar la mañana soleada del Apocalipsis para verlo como un espectáculo maravilloso.

 

 

             AWAITING THE TRUE APOCALYPSE AND THE SELF-

                                      ANNIHILATION

          The days go by, and strange things happen in this world. Yet, humanity endures. Leaders today fear starting a global war because they know the outcome. They play a game of war as a permanent truce. It is war, and yet it is not—like a nightmare resembling a Kafkaesque black-and-white film. They launch an attack but do not follow through. Nevertheless, the end is unavoidable.

          On the other hand, the Apocalypse was prophesied long ago—so long ago, in fact, that we have almost forgotten. It was foretold in the Book of Daniel, written on a lambskin scroll that appeared in the 6th century BC, during the Jewish people's captivity in Babylon. The Book of Revelation—another prediction, penned by John of Patmos—appeared between years 90 and 95, when Roman legions were carrying out persecutions, and many believed God was finally preparing for the ultimate triumph over evil. Roman theologians predicted that humanity would meet its end in the Spring of 501 AD. Yet, when that brilliant morning arrived, everything unfolded quite placidly; people enjoyed a delicious breakfast of *panis siligineus* spread with honey, accompanied by sweet-sour grapes, dates, and goat’s milk. Afterward, in a cheerful mood, everyone went for a walk in the countryside to witness the Apocalypse—but it never came.

          Despite this, we all know it will come. In the past, that did not matter. Now, however, it is alarming; looking back, we realize that with each passing day, the window of peace narrows, bringing us closer to that end. The solution rests in establishing lasting peace. Yet the innate violence carried within human double-helix DNA ensures that no one is immune to taking offense at another nation over the most trivial of reasons. It becomes even more alarming when we conclude that humanity is the only species that has evolved to drive itself to extinction, and that we will be our own executioners.
          All that remains is to await the sunny morning of the Apocalypse and behold it as a magnificent spectacle.
